Pei Wei's Vietnamese Chicken Salad Rolls with a side of steamed veggies for lunch and inspiring conversation with some dear office mates. Favorite part of the lunch is revealing our "fortunes." Laughable to me because fortune cookies these days are no more than declarative statements or well-known facts. But fun, nevertheless.
In any case, the fortune pictured above was mine. It really couldn't have been more perfect for where I'm at right now. One of my lunch buddies -- who's a very inspiring woman to all of us for her amazing relationship with Jesus and on a daily basis speaks courage into each of our lives -- tells us that it reminds her of Colossian 3:15. She pulls up the verse on her iPhone:
"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts . . ." She was captured by the word "rule" as it reflected what Christ already has done and continually offers us in Him. We mulled this over a little and then I pulled up the Amplifed version of the same verse:
And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ's] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].
Let the peace of Christ act as umpire continually in your hearts.
We pictured a baseball ump overseeing a ballgame...
Worrying over inconsistent income...
Strike! You're out!
Fretting over work-related stresses/stressors...
Whoa! Strike! Worry, you're outta here!
To be honest, life feels a little cumbersome right now -- nothing I won't get through, mind you. But it was such a kindness to be reminded through a "fortune, "Hey, I see you. You're worried what the future holds Jessica? Strike!! My peace over your thoughts, over your heart..."
I feel humbled by the Lord's gentle reminders to me. I am deeply thankful for the friendships that span my work world and my personal life that He uses to inspire, uplift and remind me of His truth and goodness.
